Cyprus Driving Licence

Only Cyprus residents who can prove they have lived in the country for six months can apply for a Cyprus Driving Licence.

If you are resident in Cyprus and from the EU :
1) You can continue to drive on your FULL domestic licence until it expires. (Article 1(2) of Directive 91/439/EEC).

Providing:
a) the licence was issued by an EU member state,
b) it is valid,
c) you have reached the minimum ages applicable in Cyprus.

2) Exchange your licence for a Cyprus driving licence, which is exchanged on a like for like basis. (Article 8(1) of Directive 91/439/EEC).
If your licence is in a language other than Greek or English you have to supply a translation. This must be done by the Ambassador of your Country or the Cyprus Press and Information Office.

Please note that you cannot change the address on your EU licence to one outside the issuing Country. It is accepted within the rules that the address will be from the issuing country and necessarily be out of date.

You cannot hold more than one driving licence issued by an EU State.

UK Motorcycle Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) has no validity in Cyprus.
There is no similar training requirement to obtain a motorcycle licence in Cyprus.
A CBT pass does not entitle you to exchange your UK motorcycle licence for a full Cyprus one.

If you are resident in Cyprus and from outside the EU :
Some countries outside the EU have an agreement to exchange existing FULL domestic licences.

When your current EU or National licence expires, it has to be renewed in your country of current residence.

If your current EU or National licence is lost or stolen, it has to be replaced in your country of current residence. The replacement will be based on proof, supplied by you, from the issuing Country. (Article 8(5) of Directive 91/439/EEC).

If you wish to drive a vehicle category not currently on your EU or National licence, you may exchange it and obtain a provisional (learner) entitlement on the new Cyprus licence. Then pass the Cyprus driving test.
OR
A separate Provisional (learner) Licence for the category may be issued. When the Cyprus driving test for the category is passed, the old licence should be exchanged and all of the categories be consolidated onto a new Cyprus Licence.
The Department of Transport Examiner may decide which option is available in accordance with local instructions.
