Cyprus Provisional / Learner Driving Licence.


Only Cyprus residents who can prove they have lived in the country for six months can apply for a Cyprus provisional / learner driving licence and take a Cyprus Driving Test.
Provisional / learner licence are only valid in the Country of issue.

Residents: How to apply for a Cyprus provisional driving licence:
To obtain a licence to enable you to learn to drive, application has to be made in person at the Department of Transport (DoRT) with the documents shown below.

The fee is € 5.13. This covers the cost of a short verbal theory test of about 8 questions on traffic signs and the highway code and is similar to the driving test.
You have to pass this test before a provisional driving licence will be issued.

If you attend between 1000hrs and 1200hrs you may be able to take this test immediately. If not, make an appointment with the examiner to return at a more suitable time.

Return to the front office with the pass document and the documents and fee listed below to be issued with the provisional licence.

Documents required to obtain a Cyprus Provisional Driving Licence:
A completed T.O.M. 7A application form. It is a blue form obtainable from the DoRT - only available in Greek. For a printable translation in PDF format click here.
One passport style photograph
Residents Permit (This is often waived because of the time it can take to obtain one.)
Produce evidence that you have been resident in Cyprus for six months eg. utility bill.

The cost of a provisional driving licence is € 8.54 and is valid for one year.

The licence is issued at the time of application.

The earliest a driving licence can be renewed is one month before the expiry of the old one.



car Provisional licence holders aged 17.5 must be accompanied by an experienced driver aged 30 and upwards who has held a full driving licence for the class of vehicle for no less than five years.

A driver in this class cannot take the driving test until they are 18 years of age and have held a licence for 21 days or more.
E
Provisional licence holders under this regulation must display E Plates on the front and rear of the vehicle.
car Provisional licence holders aged 18 must be accompanied by a person aged at least 25 with a minimum five years driving experience.
L
Apart from those above, all other provisional licence holders must display L plates on the front and rear of the vehicle.
Highway
Provisional licence holders are not permitted to drive on the highway unless they are accompanied by a Cyprus licensed driving instructor or taking part in a driving test.



A Cyprus provisional / learner licence is only valid in Cyprus.
(All provisional / learner licences are valid in the country of issue only).
