I have an EU or UK National full driving licence. Can I drive in Cyprus?
Yes. All driving licences issued in EU member states and some other countries are valid providing
you have reached the age limits applicable in Cyprus, e.g. 18 for a car. There may be others that are also valid. Check with the DoRT. For all other Counties an International Licence is required.
I have an EU or UK National provisional / learner driving licence. Can I drive in Cyprus?
No. Provisional licences are only valid in the country of issue.
Do you drive on the left in Cyprus?
Yes, the same as in the UK.
Are speed limits shown in miles per hour?
No. They are posted in Kilometers per hour.
Are the traffic laws the same as in the UK?
In general yes. If you comply with the UK Highway Code you are unlikely to come unstuck.
I am coming over to Cyprus on holiday. Can I apply for a Cyprus driving licence and take my test while I am there?
No. You have to be a resident of Cyprus and provide documentation to prove it.
Can I apply for a Cyprus Licence by post?
No. They are issued at the time and on personal application only.
Are the driving licence application forms in English?
No, but I have supplied a translation of several forms here.
I am a UK qualified driving instructor. Can I work in Cyprus?
Yes, provided you comply with these conditions.
I have passed my motorcycle CBT in the UK. Can I drive a motorcycle on it in Cyprus or exchange my licence for a full Cyprus motorcycle licence?
No. UK Motorcycle Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) has no validity in Cyprus. More information here.
